Community Involvement
Join the Flood Recovery Clean-Up Day on Saturday, August 26, and help make Vermont beautiful again. Together, we can make a difference and restore Vermont's natural beauty. Visit greenupvermont.org, where you can find a list of project sites throughout the state that need your assistance. By downloading the Green Up Vermont app and signing up to volunteer in your local area, you can significantly impact your community. Volunteers will be deployed to areas hit hard by this summer’s flooding and address needs reported by communities.
Green Up Vermont’s mission is to promote the stewardship of our state’s natural landscape and waterways and the livability of our communities by involving people in Green Up Day while raising public awareness about the health, economic, and visual benefits of a litter-free environment year-round. This event aims to aid in the cleanup efforts following the July 2023 flood that hit our state.

After a flood event, most debris can be disposed of in one container. Flood-damaged recyclables or food waste can be thrown away in the trash. Please see the list of special care items and be sure to read full guidance details from our partners at the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation.
